The Marion M. Isaacs Legacy Circle was named for the leader and philanthropist, Marion M. Isaacs, who served as Chairwoman of the Board of Governors at the Scranton Area Community Foundation from its founding until the end of her life. Today, philanthropists who want to invest in the future of the region can choose to join the Legacy Circle by notifying us that they have included the Foundation in their estate plans. The Legacy Circle encompasses all people who wish to create a legacy that will last forever and benefit our region in perpetuity. Planned gifts are an ideal charitable vehicle to provide lasting support to the causes and charities that are most important to you, while also protecting your loved ones. The Foundation's knowledge of local needs and the philanthropic vehicles offered by the Foundation makes it easy for donors to establish a permanent fund to benefit our region forever.

The Scranton Area Community Foundation's Marion M. Isaacs Legacy Circle was established to encourage donors in the community to give back to our region through gifts which carry out their charitable purposes. The Legacy Circle consists of individuals who have named the Scranton Area Community Foundation, or one of the many charitable funds it manages, as a beneficiary of a planned or deferred gift. Over the years, hundreds of individuals have partnered with the Scranton Area Community Foundation to create a fund that will benefit our community forever. Each of these funds tells the story of the donor's life and informs future generations about the initiatives and causes that mattered most to that donor. Anyone can join the Legacy Circle. There is no minimum gift amount required to be a member.

Who was Marion M. Isaacs?

Marion M. Isaacs was a leader and philanthropist in Lackawanna County throughout her lifetime. She served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Scranton Area Community Foundation from the Foundation's inception until the end of her life. The Marion M. Isaacs Legacy Circle is named in her memory in honor of her excellence in service to foster the well-being of the people of the Scranton area.

What is the purpose of the Marion M. Isaacs Legacy Circle?

The Legacy Circle is meant to encompass any and all who wish to leave a legacy for the future of their family and their community, and to assure that their own life's efforts will continue to make a positive impact. Most importantly, by partnering with the Scranton Area Community Foundation, individuals can be confident that their legacy will be carried out according to their wishes.

What is a planned gift and how does it work?

The planned gift can be made as a bequest to the Scranton Area Community Foundation under a donor's will or trust, by naming the Scranton Area Foundation as a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy, through an IRA rollover, or by the donor establishing a charitable remainder trust during his or her lifetime.

What do I have to do to join?

All that is required is for an individual to make a planned gift naming the Scranton Area Community Foundation as a beneficiary and informing the Foundation of the gift by submitting a designation information notice.

Where do I get a designation information notice?

The Scranton Area Foundation Marion M. Isaacs Legacy Circle designation notices are available at the Foundation's office as well as the offices of many Lackawanna County attorneys and financial planners.

Who can be a part of the Marion M. Isaac's Legacy Circle?

Anyone can join. There is no minimum gift amount required to be a member. All that is required is for an individual to make a planned gift naming the Scranton Area Community Foundation as a beneficiary and informing the Foundation of the gift by submitting the designation information notice. It is not necessary to disclose the amount of the gift.

Will anyone know that I am a member?

All members of the Scranton Area Community Foundation's Marion M. Isaacs Legacy Circle will be listed in our publications (unless they wish to remain anonymous) and invited to selected events sponsored by the Foundation. For individuals who wish to remain anonymous, simply informing the Foundation of that preference will ensure that the privacy of Legacy Circle members will be respected.

No. It is not necessary to disclose the amount of the gift.
