Field of Interest funds are funds whereby a donor designates a special area of interest (e.g.: arts, education, health, etc.) in which grants may be made from the fund.

| Ben Franklin Trust Fund | In his will, dated July 17, 1788, Benjamin Franklin left Philadelphia 1,000 pounds sterlingabout $4,000 making provisions to ensure its purposefulness indefinitely. On the 200th anniversary of his death, 76% of the trust - now worth close to $2 million dollars - reverted to the state. Half of the state's portion was distributed as permanent endowments with community foundations across the state. The Scranton Area Foundation became one of eighteen statewide community foundations to receive a portion of Franklin's bequest. The Ben Franklin Trust of the Scranton Area Foundation is a Field of Interest Fund for education. The earnings help to enrich the lives of those in the greater Lackawanna county area, ensuring the spirit of Mr. Franklin's benevolence is kept alive. Date Established: 11/93 |
| Sarah Marie Heard Fund | In 1994, Mr. & Mrs. William C. Heard established this fund in memory of their beloved daughter, Sarah Marie. This Field of Interest Fund provides grants for programs and services for children. Date Established: 11/94 |
| The Heather Fund | In 1998, Janina Martin and an anonymous donor established this fund in memory of her daughter, Heather Martin. Grants from this fund are made to organ donor organizations. Date Established: 04/98 |

| The Molly Fund | In 1994, Mr. & Mrs. William J. Calpin, Jr., with their family and friends, established the Molly Fund to memorialize and celebrate the life of Molly Elizabeth Calpin. This fund provides assistance to children facing catastrophic illness, and their families. Date Established: 04/94 |
