The #GaryInspiredMe Scholarship Fund was established in 2012 by the family of Gary Lukasiewicz, who captured the hearts of so many people in our region and across the nation through his courageous battle with cancer. The fund was established through the Scranton Area Foundation to provide scholarships to seniors at public and/or private high schools residing in Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties who are planning to attend a four-year college or university. The scholarships are awarded annually to qualified high school seniors who embody the qualities of Gary Lukasiewicz.  Guidance counselors from each school are able to select one student per school to apply for these scholarships.

Laura Ducceschi, President & CEO of The Scranton Area Foundation, speaks of the legacy of Gary Lukasiewicz: “As an alumnus of Riverside Jr.-Sr. High School, I am honored that the Scranton Area Foundation is administering these scholarships in memory of such a remarkable person.  It is a significant honor for the students who have been selected as these scholarship recipients, for it signifies that they share many of the same qualities that Gary exemplified.”
