Winners Announced for NEPA Stars Awards

The Scranton Cultural Center at the Masonic Temple is pleased to announce the winners of the inaugural NEPA Stars Awards – a program designed to recognize excellence in high school theatre and is sponsored by the Scranton Area Community Foundation.

The announcement of the winners took place at an awards ceremony held at today at the Scranton Cultural Center which was hosted by SCC Executive Director Michael Melcher.

The inaugural awards ceremony was sponsored by the Scranton Area Community Foundation.

“Today was truly a great day for high school musical theatre and arts education in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” says Dawn McGurl, Director of the NEPA Stars Awards program and Program Manager for the Scranton Cultural Center.

“There is an overwhelming amount of talent in the youth of this area, and thanks to the generous support of the Scranton Area Community Foundation, we were able to give these students the recognition they deserve through the NEPA Stars Program.”

Best Actress
Morgan Miller as Peter Pan in Wallenpaupack Area High School’s “Peter Pan.”

Best Actor
Connor McLaughlin as Captain Hook in Wallenpaupack Area High School’s “Peter Pan.”

Best Director
Wallenpaupack Area High School, “Peter Pan.”

Best Choreography
Wallenpaupack Area High School, “Peter Pan.”

Best Ensemble
Munchkins/Citizens of Oz in Scranton High School’s “The Wizard of Oz.”

Best Featured EnsembleThe Indians in Wallenpaupack Area High School’s “Peter Pan.”

Best Supporting Actress
Tatiana Tell as Glinda in Scranton High School’s “The Wizard of Oz.”

Best Supporting Actor
Mike Baranowski as Lord Farquaad in West Scranton High School’s “Shrek the Musical.”
