#PhilanthropyFriday: Sharing the Story of the Cody Jude Barrasse Memorial Fund and Awarding a 65th Anniversary Mini-Grant

This week, we share the story of the Cody Jude Barrasse Memorial Fund at the Scranton Area Community Foundation and award another 65th-anniversary mini-grant.

Created in 2013 by the family and friends of Cody Jude Barrasse whose life was cut short at the age of 22, the Cody Jude Barrasse Memorial Fund honors Cody’s life and legacy by working to promote organ donor awareness and provide services to those awaiting transplantation. Through the Cody Jude Barrasse Memorial Fund, people in the Lackawanna County region who receive or donate organs can apply for financial assistance from this fund, to help with costs that are not covered by insurance. Additionally, the Cody Jude Barrasse Memorial Fund also serves to support charitable causes, activities, and organizations in the Lackawanna County region.

To support and grow the fund, Cody’s family and friends are hosting the 7th Annual Cody Barrasse Memorial 3V3 Basketball Tournament on Saturday, August 10, 2019, beginning at 8:00 a.m. at Scranton Prep’s Xavier Center. In addition to the basketball tournament, Cody’s family and friends also host the Continue Cody’s Commitment event that same evening from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at The Ritz Theatre on Wyoming Avenue in Scranton. The event will be a night for organ donor awareness and will include an open bar, light fare, and live music from Daddy-O and the Sax Maniax. For more information about the event, visit https://codybarrassefoundation.com/events/

We want to honor and celebrate the generosity of the donors, friends, and family members who make the good work of the Cody Jude Barrasse Memorial Fund possible and thank them for allowing us to share their story by awarding our seventh 65th Anniversary Mini-Grant to an organization of their choice. In honor of our sapphire anniversary and to celebrate the loyalty of our donors and the prosperity that their generosity makes possible, we are awarding mini-grants in honor of our donors who are making a difference and who share their stories with us. The Cody Jude Barrasse Memorial Fund has chosen to support the Children’s Advocacy Center through this $650 mini-grant opportunity.

We would like to recognize that our work at the Foundation would not be possible if it weren’t for the generosity of our many charitable donors, like the friends and family of the Cody Jude Barrasse Memorial Fund.

If you would like to SHARE YOUR STORY with us, we would love to hear it! Simply fill out our form online.

Up to $10,000 will be awarded in 2019 through the 65th-anniversary mini-grants opportunity, funded by the Scranton Area Community Foundation.
