The Scranton Area Foundation is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation (NPHCF), a community foundation with the mission of supporting community wellness; health education; medical care of the uninsured and underinsured; and the complete physical, mental, and social well-being of the residents of Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming counties.
The Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation, a registered 501©3 not-for-profit organization, was established in 2011 following the sale of Mercy Hospital in Scranton. Since its inception, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation has disbursed approximately $730,000 to nonprofit organizations serving the residents of Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming Counties. The assets of NPHCF are currently valued at over $15 million, and the Foundation is overseen by a Board of Governors from Lackawanna, Luzerne, and Wyoming counties.
“In challenging times where access to quality care remains elusive to many in our area, the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation’s focus on healthy communities is incredibly important.” said Laura Ducceschi, President & CEO of the Scranton Area Foundation. “Their leadership is committed to ensuring that the wellness of all people, including the vulnerable populations in our region, is made a priority.”
The First Annual Grant Awards Ceremony of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation, celebrating the 2013 grant recipients, will be held on February 20th at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel.
The Scranton Area Foundation, a public community foundation serving the people of Lackawanna County since 1954, will serve as administrator of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation. Services provided by the Scranton Area Foundation will include administration and management of the annual grant cycle of the NPHCF; general correspondence and communications with the community; financial services and bookkeeping; strategic planning; and marketing and public relations.
“I am excited about our relationship with SAF,” said James Clemente, Chairman of the Board of the Northeastern Health Care Foundation. “The history that the Scranton Area Foundation has in the region, and their knowledge of non-profit organizations, will further enable us to continue to make grants that really impact the health of our community. This impact on our region’s well-being is very important to us.”
