Community Needs Forum Report – 2018 Scranton Area Community Foundation’s success as a grantmaker, charitable partner, and donor advisor depends, in large part, on having a comprehensive, clear picture of the region we serve. We always value the opportunity to hear from the leaders of nonprofit organizations to get their perspective on the current issues and challenges they are facing as well as learn what lies ahead. Our 2018 Community Forum meetings, held in June 2018, were organized for this reason. Thirty-seven nonprofits made presentations at the Foundation’s 2018 Community Forum meetings. Their presentations highlighted critical needs, trends, and opportunities in a variety of fields. Presenters also offered feedback on the Foundation’s grant-making and convening, and its strategic initiatives in transportation and oral health, both key components of the Foundation’s Women in Philanthropy initiative. Our sincere thanks go to all who contributed presentations. The 2018 Community Needs Forum Report describes several recurring themes that emerged from the Forum, as well as highlights ways that the Scranton Area Community Foundation is planning to respond to these various challenges. It complements what we’re learning in ongoing conversations with grantees, donors, community leaders, and other grantmakers and collaborators. The 2018 Community Needs Forum Report is a publication from the Scranton Area Community Foundation’s Center for Community Leadership and Nonprofit Excellence in partnership with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Health Care Foundation.
