Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel

At this event, we will share the notable highlights of Women in Philanthropy (WIP) from 2018 and the impact WIP has had on women, girls, and their families throughout the year.

We will also share the details about the exciting partnership between Women in Philanthropy and the Scranton LaunchBox, a pre-incubator/accelerator that aims to help local entrepreneurs build and grow a sustainable business.

In addition, we will be honoring two dynamic women in our community through the Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Award and the Roseann Smith Alperin Award—two awards that are held at the Scranton Area Community Foundation.

The Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Award is presented annually to a woman whose vision, dedication and courage has enhanced the quality of life and expanded the opportunities for the people within her community and whose creative interests, energies and service to others have contributed substantially to the betterment of her community. The 2018 Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Award recipient is Laurie Cadden.

The Roseann Smith Alperin Award is presented annually to an outstanding woman who exhibits the capacity to lead, motivate, and inspire others and the community she serves. The 2018 Roseann Smith Alperin Award recipient is Katie Gilmartin.

Women in Philanthropy (WIP), an initiative of the Scranton Area Community Foundation, began as a small group of engaged, community-minded women that wanted to create meaningful, positive change in the lives of women and girls in Lackawanna County. In 2018, WIP has grown to over 100 active supporters and over 25 community partners. To date, WIP has provided STEAM education to over 2,000 local students, provided the financial backing to launch 14 local women-owned businesses, facilitated the financial education of over 120 low-to-moderate income women, convened over 80 presenters on topics related to community health and wellness, and has formed a Dental Council of health leaders who are working on a pilot project to improve access to restorative dental care.
