#PhilanthropyFriday: Giving Through Your Business

Did you know the Scranton Area Community Foundation manages giving for companies and small businesses?

As a business owner you have the opportunity not only to build your business for yourself and your family, but also to accomplish your philanthropic goals through charitable gift planning.

Would you like to invest in a local charity close to your heart? We can help you do that!

Gift Strategies Through Your Business
You can give a small percentage of voting or non-voting shares in your business to a charity or a donor advised fund (DAF). Doing so qualifies you for a charitable deduction equal to the appraised fair market value of the shares.

Here is an example of a fund that was established by a business to make a difference right here in our community:

Spotlight on a Fund: One Point Fund
The One Point Fund was established in January 2000 by Forms Plus, Inc. (now One Point, Inc.) to carry out the charitable purposes of One Point, Inc. Advisors to the fund are the members of the One Point of Light Committee of One Point, Inc. The fund grants nearly $3,000 each year to support local nonprofit organizations. Most recently, the One Point Fund helped to provide housing and services for homeless individuals and families and also provided mature men and women the opportunity to transform lives and serve the needs of others less fortunate.

The One Point Fund is an excellent example of a fund created by a company to make an impact in our community!
